FAQS
New nursing graduates are at risk of launching a successful and satisfying career due to transitional challenges in entering complex organizations.
Turnover for new nurse graduates is high. Nearly 25% of new nurses leave their jobs in the first year and 50% leave their jobs by year two.
More troubling is that 17% leave the nursing profession in the first year. And by year two, 33%-56% leave the profession entirely.
Given nearly 100,000 BSN graduates/year, within 2 years, nearly half have left their jobs within the first and second years of employment and a third or more leave the nursing profession entirely; approximately 33,000 bright, enthusiastic, new graduates are lost to the nursing profession every year!
We can do better than this. And we can do it together. This is a compelling problem that every nursing student and new graduate must confront.
Without a focused plan this outcome of rapid job turnover results in personal discouragement, loss of momentum. and is a serious talent drain for the nation.
Nurse Launch™ will help you not to one of these statistics!
Job stress and burnout, sleep disturbance, lack of belonging, workplace violence, moral distress, and the expectations of the work environment are contributing factors.
Although many hospitals are attempting to address turnover rates, organizational change is slow and varies greatly by institution.
Nurse Launch™ provides knowledge based and self-empowerment actions that new graduates can take for themselves that serve to mitigate these statistics using individual strengths and aligning these with a set of organized strategies that provide guidance on how to navigate the complexity of moving from student to employed nurse.
What will I learn in the Nurse Launch™ program?
How to Close the Gap between life as a Nursing Student and the transition to becoming a New Graduate Nurse
Nurse Launch™ is designed to provide 3rd and 4th year nursing students, and new graduates who are job seeking, with a framework for understanding their unique personality traits, values, goals and objectives that drive their career choices and expectation in getting a first job.
This personal profile data analysis is applied to designing a dynamic personal and professional map. which serves as a foundation for interviewing and selecting a “best fit” first job.
You will learn how to interview prospective employers about details of the organization's culture, quality outcomes, turnover rates, teamwork development, and support provided for new graduates.
You will receive guidance in how to actively plan with prospective employers for what is needed for a successful entry. And how the organization generally deals with problems when there is conflict.
The program includes tips and case studies on how to survive the first 90 days in a new role.
In addition to the course's presentations and coaching, you will have 24/7 access to a community of peers where you can exchange ideas and experiences.
Why is a First Job Important?
Success in a first job is critical to long-term satisfaction. Early experiences make a lasting impression on a new nurse.
Frustration, feeling overwhelmed, tired, anxious, and unsure leads to a sense of defeat and an early exit in too many cases.
Although there are many nursing jobs, selecting a good job from the start is key to a successful transition from student to practicing professionally.
Nurse Launch™ works with you to ensures your educational investment pays off in both job stability and satisfaction.
Using leadership principles as applied to self, you will gain skills in;
· assessing self-knowledge,
· interviewing skills,
· organizational culture assessment skills,
· interpersonal communication skills
· self-advocacy
· team membership
These are the key drivers in taking responsibility, having a sense of control, and succeeding in navigating the political landscape of a unit, a service, and an organization.
Discussions address how to apply skills to real life situations.
Yes. It is normal to feel anxious and fearful of caring for sick and vulnerable people. You have acquired an extensive fund of knowledge but knowing how to apply it in real life is a challenge for sure. As you move into a new role and begin to feel comfortable, these fears can be addressed daily as needed.
However, there are other environmental factors that are involved in a new job as a nurse. Learning how to present yourself as a member of the team, ask questions, know your limits, understand how to operate in the culture, and feel comfortable being “the new kid on the block” who is eager to learn, but respectful of the more senior staff presents a host of challenges as well.
Nurse Launch provides the interpersonal communication skills and grounding needed to balance anxiety with self-advocacy and the confidence needed to get to your goals and objectives.
Gaining a sense of empowerment and direction helps to mitigate fears and anxiety.
Is it worth investing in the Nurse Launch Program—will it work?
Think of this carefully curated professional career role preparation program as an insurance policy.
The average cost of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in the US typically ranges from $40,000 to over $200,000. Public universities range from $40,000 to $80,000. And private universities can range from $60,000 to $120,000.
In addition to the financial costs, the time, and intense study that the degree requires is a major investment that will pay dividends for a lifetime if the career launch is a positive experience.
Nurse Launch provides the information, coaching, and community affiliation with peers that provides the support needed to get going and remain positive.
The course and community serve as a haven for discussion of practical tips in tackling the issues that can be catastrophic for derailing career paths. Participants will learn to make choices, control emotions, own their futures, and have strategies on how to handle tough situations.
Nurse Launch goes far beyond preparing for an interview. The program focuses on how to prepare for a career, using a holistic perspective.
Group teaching provides the opportunity to learn from others and to get feedback. Information is readily available, but it is the synthesis and coaching discussions that help to integrate information into a life and career plan that starts with getting to know yourself followed by a critical analysis of the job market and selecting a role that will work best for you.
Building a support system that will serve to buffer the known challenges ahead is essential.
Nurse Launch is complimentary to a Nurse residency program. but the focus of each is different.
A residency focuses on clinical nursing skills, communication, critical thinking, time management, and teamwork often with a nurse preceptor to facilitate the transition of these skills to professional practice. These programs are very valuable to focus knowledge learned in school to actual patients.
Nurse Launch is focused on YOU and your unique needs. This program is designed to prepare you as a nurse neophyte to enter the job market with a plan and tools to transition successfully.
